Good to know

Questions about family portraits.

My children won't sit still and we're not photogenic. Will it work?

It will, honestly. Coming from a family of twelve, I know the beautiful unpredictability of family life, and I won't have anyone lined up against a wall with forced smiles. I plan around the people, not the other way round. The wriggling and the silliness is usually where the best frames come from.

Where do family sessions happen?

Wherever feels like you. Your own home, a favourite beach, or a woodland walk, somewhere the children are comfortable and you can just be together. If you're not sure, we'll find somewhere that suits during our first chat.

How long is a session, and how soon do we see the photos?

Plan for around an hour of relaxed, loosely-directed time together, enough to settle in without anyone running out of patience. Your private gallery is delivered within two weeks, ready to download, print, or turn into an album.

What should we wear?

Keep it comfortable and lean towards soft, complementary tones rather than everyone matching exactly. Avoid big logos or anything you'll be fussing with. Most of all, wear what feels like you; you'll relax far more in clothes you actually like.

We genuinely hate having our photo taken. Can you help with that?

That's usually where we start, and it's usually fine by the end of the first half-hour. I've had my own photo fear, so I take a gentle, unhurried approach and give you plenty of room to just interact with each other. Nerves are welcome.

Can you photograph extended family or grandparents too?

Of course. Bigger groups, several generations, the dog: all welcome. Those gatherings don't happen often, so they're well worth celebrating while everyone's together. Just let me know numbers when you enquire so I can plan for it.
